Imagine walking out of a doctor’s office completely overwhelmed and feeling as though there is no clear path towards optimal health. That wasn’t hard to imagine, was it? For some, it is because our diagnoses seem to be stacking up despite our best efforts, leading to feelings of failure and hopelessness. For others it is because our labs look entirely “normal” but we are suffering from undiscovered health problems, leaving us questioning ourselves and living in silent pain. Building an actionable plan to recover from poor health and discover the best version of ourselves requires insight, education, and encouragement. That is the job, the drive, and the passion of a health coach.
Health coaches don’t work in the field of conformity. Health coaches work in the field of transformity. Health coaches work in the field of becoming.
In today’s healthcare system, the average amount of time a person spends with their healthcare manager is between 13 and 16 minutes. In the amount of time it takes to park, order, and receive a drink from our local coffee shop, we expect to be guided towards optimal health. While we could probably spend more than double that amount of time trying to determine who is at fault for that fact, we won’t change its truth. In an effort to alleviate the frustration, the loneliness, and the hopelessness felt by so many on their health journey, health coaches offer a wide variety of services and sessions. Some health coaches specialize in very niche areas while others offer broad services that are tailored to the individual client. A certified health coach has education on a vast array of topics and can offer guidance and help plan actionable steps to improve every pillar of our lives.

“Improve every pillar of our lives? Why? I’m just struggling with sleep and my diet.” We get it. It can feel like our problems are just a few pretty specific things that we keep running into. But what we often fail to realize is that the other pillars in our life need some work and are causing those areas to be lacking. Take the sleep and diet for example, maybe eating dinner with friends a few times a week is the only thing ins your social pillar. These meals might include larger portions, multiple sugary or alcoholic drinks, and a desert, followed by staying out late and struggling to fall asleep. Up until now, there was no reason to change this ritual. But, your health coach just pointed out the added calories, the guilt you feel the next day that leads to not eating and having a poor mental state, and the exhaustion you suffer to recover from more and more.
That night you texted your friend group and invited them to your favorite workout class and coffee after instead and to your surprise, they all loved it and committed to three days a week instead of the nights out. All because a health coach recognized the need you had for social connection and instead of you feeling ashamed for failing at your latest diet, you were able to align more pillars to your health.
That’s bio-individuality. That’s perspective.
Despite what you’ve read in Cosmo lately, or what ad keeps popping up on your social media, what’s “trending” isn’t probably what’s best. True health is suited for you, not the other way around. Health coaches want to help you transform, not conform. Let us show you, for the health of it.
